The murder of a mother of two in Naivasha last week took a new twist after the boyfriend who has been on the run surrendered to the police.

The suspect in his early 20s confessed to killing 30-year-old Beth Mwihaki in Kayole estate for allegedly having affairs with other men.

This came as a postmortem indicated that the mother of two was murdered by strangulation using a piece of cloth inside her house in the estate located off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

Police have also established that a ransom note demanding Sh2m from the family of the victim was authored by the suspect with a view of throwing them off truck.

A source privy to the investigations said that the suspect arrived in the station with some relatives in which he confessed to the murder.

The officer added that the 22-year-old was the first suspect who went into hiding moments after the lifeless body was discovered by the relatives.

“FROM PHONE RECORDS, THE YOUNG MAN WAS IMPLICATED IN THE MURDER AND THE RANSOM NOTED WAS MEANT TO IMPLICATE THE FORMER HUSBAND,” SAID THE SOURCE.

Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident adding that the suspect would be charged in court with murder when the investigation file was complete.

“THE SUSPECT HAS SURRENDERED TO OUR OFFICERS FOLLOWING THE MURDER OF THE WOMAN AND WE SHALL TAKE THE NECESSARY STEPS BEFORE CHARGING HIM IN COURT,” HE SAID.

A sister to the deceased Ruth Wanjiku told how they decided to check on the deceased after she failed to open her business or respond to their phone calls.

She said that the victim was earlier married but they separated with the husband adding that they didn’t know the motive behind the murder.

“AFTER SHE WAS KILLED, THE KILLERS LOCKED THE DOOR FROM OUTSIDE AND WE HAD TO BREAK IN WHERE WE FOUND HER LIFELESS BODY,” SHE SAID.

Lakeview MCA Simon Wanyoike who was among the first on the scene expressed his concern over an increase in insecurity cases.

On the murder, he confirmed the presence of the ransom note adding that police had collected it as part of their investigations.

“IT LOOKS LIKE THE KILLERS WERE SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING IN THE HOUSE AND THE WOMAN WHOSE BODY WAS COVERED IN A BED SHEET HAD FOAM COMING FROM HER MOUTH,” HE SAID.
