Willis Chimano of the famous Kenyan boys band Sauti Sol has talked about how tough it was making friends due to his introvert nature.
Speaking on ‘Engage’ a platform that allows people to share their life stories, he said,
‘I GREW UP IN A VERY LOVING FAMILY, MY PARENTS ENSURED THAT MY THREE SIBLINGS AND I HAD WHAT WE NEEDED TO GET THROUGH LIFE.’
EDUCATION WAS A PILLAR IN OUR HOME.
MY CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVE PARENTS WERE PARTICULAR ON OUR BELIEFS AND WE USED TO HAVE PRAYERS SESSIONS.
WOE UNTO YOU IF YOU CAME LATE OR FELT LIKE NOT FELLOWSHIPPING.
EVERYONE HAD A TASK TO EITHER SING OR LEAD THE FELLOWSHIP.
Like every introvert person, Chimano said that making friends was not so easy for him.
‘GROWING UP I FELT LIKE AN AWKWARD CHILD, MAKING FRIENDS FELT LIKE A LABORIOUS TASK. I FELT LIKE IT WAS SOMETHING I COULD DO WITHOUT.
I JUST LOVED WATCHING OTHER KIDS PLAY.’
‘EVEN IN HIGH SCHOOL I WAS A VERY SUBDUED CHILD, ALL I WANTED WAS TO GET GOOD GRADES AND GO TO UNIVERSITY.
WHEN I WENT TO UNIVERSITY, I DID NOT GET THE FULFILLMENT I YEARNED FOR, I STARTED GETTING FULFILLMENT AFTER OUR MUSIC CAREER STARTED PICKING UP.
MY FASHION IS ALL ABOUT CHALLENGING TOXIC MASCULINITY.’
In conclusion, Chimano said that he has no regrets as to how he lives his life or who he is.
‘BEING AN INTROVERT GIVES ME TIME TO THINK,CREATE AND RETAIN MY ENERGY.
TALKING IS LIKE A JOB.I HAVE NO REGRETS, I LOVE BEING IN MY OWN THOUGHTS.’
