Mike Sonko’s daughter Saumu Mbuvi has for the first time revealed that she suffered from bipolar disorder. Speaking in an interview with Joanne Waeni, she said,

WHEN I LOST MY MOTHER I WAS YOUNG AND WENT THROUGH A VERY BAD TRAUMA, MENTAL TORTURE AND IT WAS HARD TO ACCEPT WHAT I WAS GOING THROUGH. IT GOT TO A POINT I WAS NOT OKAY AND WAS ADMITTED DUE TO MENTAL RELATED ISSUES AND I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BIPOLAR. MY MOTHER WAS MY EVERYTHING.

The mother of two went ahead to reveal that she contemplated suicide at some point.

‘I ONCE TRIED TO COMMIT SUICIDE. I HAD A LOT OF THINGS GOING ON IN MY HEAD AT THAT TIME. I HAVE SUFFERED FROM BIPOLAR DISORDER FOR THE LAST EIGHT YEARS,’ SHE NARRATED.

She continued;

I’M ON LIFETIME PILLS AND IT IS NOT EASY SOMETIMES WHEN YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH PEOPLE ESPECIALLY WITH FAKE PEOPLE. IT REALLY DRAINS ME UP WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ME.

Saumu is now married to Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip and they are are so much in love. She has always described him as her support system.

MENTAL HEALTH IS VERY IMPORTANT AND THAT’S ONE THING I THANK GOD I GOT FROM MY HUSBAND BECAUSE HE REALLY UNDERSTOOD ME. ALL MY RELATIONSHIPS [WITH OTHER MEN] TOOK IT AS A DISABILITY, NI KAMA WEWE NI KILEMA. YOU CAN’T THINK STRAIGHT SO THEY HAVE TO THINK FOR YOU, MAKE DECISIONS FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU’RE ON LIFETIME PILLS…’ SHE EXPLAINED.

Adding,

‘I WAS LIVING IN A SHADOW OF PEOPLE AND THEY WERE TRYING TO CONTROL WHO I WAS,’ SHE RECOUNTED.
