Churchill comedian Njoro regrets putting his wife and three children through hell when he was depressed alcoholic.
His depression pushed him to seek alcohol and as a result he could not function without it.
“THE LIFE I WAS LIVING YOU WOULD NOT LIVE WITH ME. I WOULD LEAVE THE HOUSE AND GET BACK AT 5 AM, TAKE A BATH AND LEAVE AGAIN. I DID NOT CARE WHAT THE CHILDREN ATE. ALSO I WAS VIOLENT WHEN I WAS DRUNK.”
“SHE DID WELL TO LEAVE ME, WHEN SHE DID I NOW STARTED DRINKING EVEN MORE. THIS TIME SHE LEFT THERE WAS NO ONE TO COOK FOR ME. I WAS NOT EATING, I WAS DRINKING TOO MUCH. MY FAMILY CAME TO GET ME AND TOOK ME TO REHAB.”
The came from Nakuru, took his household things and shifted them back home. At the time, Njoro was in the bar.
“THE WATCHMAN AT THE PLACE I WAS STAYING CALLED ME AND TOLD ME MY THINGS ARE BEING TAKEN BY PEOPLE WHO CLAIM THEY ARE MY FAMILY. I DID NOT CARE, THEY TOOK THINGS TWO ROUND AND THEY FINISHED THEY CAME AND TOOK ME AND SAID WE ARE GOING WITH YOU. WE LEFT NAIROBI AT 8PM TO NAKURU.”
“THE NEXT MORNING I WOKE UP VERY CONFUSED, THEY HID MY CAR KEYS, BUT I STILL LEFT AND WENT LOOKING FOR A LOCAL. ONE DAY MY MUM ASKED ME TO TAKE HER SOMEWHERE, I DID NOT KNOW I WAS BEING TAKEN TO A DOCTOR, WHO SPOKE TO ME. I WAS GIVEN MEDICINE, FOR A MONTH, I TOOK THE PRESCRIBED MEDICATION FOR TWO WEEKS AND MY PARALYSED HAND BECAME BETTER.”
Njoro said when he finally went to rehab, his wife went to visit him.
“SHE CAME TO REHAB TO SEE ME, I FELT SO SORRY, YOU SEE SOMEONE AND YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO APOLOGISE. IT WAS VERY EMOTIONAL. I SAW THE KIDS LATER THAT IS WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU FAILED THEM.”
Now, Njoro has reconciled with his wife, “we are working on building our relationship.”
