Minnie Dlamini Explains The Historical Meaning Behind Her Pregnancy Reveal Attire. Now this is one woman in touch with her culture. In most cases, when celebs reveal their pregnancies, they share the most gorgeous photo shoots, that make headlines across media platforms.
Once local celeb who looked outstanding on her pregnancy reveal shoot, is Minnie Dlamini-Jones. The celebrated media personality and businesswoman, decided to do away with the common nude photo shoot and went for something totally unique.
Minnie took this as an opportunity to make her culture shine. After carrying out an extensive research, Minnie knew exactly what she will wear. She wore a Zulu hat that identifies a woman as married, and her dress symbolized that she is a mother to be.
“In the attempt to pay respect to my culture, I did some research on how a Zulu pregnant woman looked like back in the day. Our culture is so rich with amazing clothing, patterns, colors and designs, all of which have symbolic meaning. For example the hat a woman wears symbolizes that she is a married woman. The clothes she wears symbolizes whether she is a girl, a woman, a wife, or a mother to be. The patterns on a maternity apron determine many things, among which is the sex of the baby,” she said.
Even the accessories as well as where the picture was taken had a lot to tell regarding her pregnancy.
“In this image shot in my backyard, to represent where my child will be raised. Historically the hide would have been a gift from my father in law from a hunt. The bead work and design would have been handmade & gifted to me by mother in law with messages and symbols of the family lineage almost like the western family crest,” Minnie dished out some historical lessons.
