A Kisii University don has been found dead in a rented apartment at Mwembe area in Kisii town.
The body of Peter Nyang’acha, 40, a geography lecturer was found sprawling on a sofaset in his sitting room after relatives broke the door on Saturday evening to gain entry.
There were dry blood stains splattered on the floor and the body had a wound on the brow,the deceased’s brother Vincent Moracha told the Star at the scene.
The family suspects he may had been murdered by an intruder who escaped using the rear exit.
Vincent said he was notified by his sister Jane Moracha, who also works at the university, that she had gone to check on her brother on Friday but found the doors locked
She however heard a bad odour being emitted from the house when she came visiting.
“WE DECIDED THAT I COME AND WHEN I REACHED WE BREAK THE DOOR WITH THE HELP OF FRIENDS AND THAT IS THE TIME WE FOUND HIS BODY LYING ON THE SEAT WITH BLOOD ON HIS FACE. IT HAD A DEEP CUT ON THE FACE AN INDICATION HE WAS KILLED ,” SAID VINCENT.
He said as a family they want investigations done and the suspects arrested.
Area chief Yobesh Mose told journalists the lecturer had been staying alone.
He is suspected to had died Tuesday when calls to his phone went unanswered, he added.
“WE HAVE LEFT THE POLICE TO UNDERTAKE FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS FROM HERE,” HE SAID.
Kisii University Human Resource manager Dr Eric Onsongo said the deceased taught Geography at the University’s main campus.
“WE HAVE CONTACTED THE POLICE TO START INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE DEATH,” SAID ONSONGO.
Police from Kisii have since visited the scene and took the body to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
They also took his mobile phones to begin a probe.
