Numerous reports from local media and politicians alike have speculated about a possible merger deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga. Review of the Jubilee constitution now reveals that it might not be just speculation but an inevitable reality.
The first and fifth section of Article 9 of the Jubilee Party constitution gives President Uhuru Kenyatta, the party leader, veto powers to determine the direction the party will take.
The Party Leader shall be the overall Leader of the Party and the symbol of unity
The Party Leader shall promote political harmony and shall have overall authority over the other officials and members of the party
These veto powers were confined by a senior official within Jubilee who proclaimed that President Kenyatta could overrule any decision despite Ruto having enough numbers within the National Executive Committee.
The Jubilee National Advisory Council also stated on Thursday, April 23, that Uhuru was at liberty to form a coalition with any interested party.
While breakingnews.co.ke cannot confirm that a merger is in the works, the platform for a merger is there for the president to consider.
